High Wycombe

High Wycombe has a population of 125,257 and it is the second largest Buckinghamshire town after Milton Keynes, according to the ONS official estimates for 2016. At High Wycombe, the existence of a settlement was documented as 'Wicumun' in 970. Given to Thomas Gilbert, a Basset family member, in 1171 was the Wycombe Lordship and manor.

The legacy of Wycombe Barony shifted to Aline, his daughter who married 5th Earl of Norfolk, Roger Bigod, when Philip died in 1271. A GMB Union survey ranked Wycombe district as the 4th dirtiest in the South East and the 26th dirtiest in the UK in 2007. Home to the campus of Buckinghamshire New University is High Wycombe. Close to junction 4 of the M40, High Wycombe Coachway is served by National Express services to destinations across United Kingdom. On the Great Western Main Line through Bourne End and Loudwater, Wycombe Railway ran from High Wycombe to Maidenhead. On Rye, Wycombe's yearly "Asian Mela" takes place. Home of 19th-century Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli was High Wycombe.

Examples of locally made chairs and information on the furniture and lace industries are included at Wycombe Museum. With furniture factories setting up over the town, Wycombe's famous industry, furniture (Windsor chairs) took hold in the 19th century. High Wycombe was the seat of Bomber Command from 1940 to 1968. High Wycombe from the ethnic group of white has the proportion of people that is lowest in Buckinghamshire, representing 76% of the population, based on 2001 census and the 2007 Indices of Multiple Deprivation data.

Near High Wycombe at Flackwell Heath, Amersham & Wycombe College is a further education college with campuses also at Chesham and Amersham. In recent years, High Wycombe has been featured for different reasons in the national media, including coverage that is seasonal of the refusal of the local library to display a poster for a Christmas carol service and other stories such as a riot that was small-scale between feuding gangs and families in which an axe, metal poles, and knives, whilst a gunman sprayed bullets were used, the triple shooting of young Asian men; and Natasha Derby's murder and shooting in the middle of a busy dance floor at point-blank range at a town centre venue.

On the southern edge, Wycombe Air Park is popular with learning pilots and gliders. Home to public houses and bars, in the Frogmoor area, is Wycombe town centre. Formerly the largest dry ski slope, the town features the old Wycombe Summit, before it was destroyed in a fire.
